The clients' wish was to create a house with a discreet exterior. Inside, the building features multi-storey spaces and internal windows, creating a complex spatial sculpture deliberately contrasting with its modest outside appearance.
Access to the house is via a barely visible plinth on the basement level of the existing old building. Further garden walls anchor the structure in the terrain, uniting the two houses into a harmonious ensemble. The patina of the copper roof and the lively brick façade blend the building with its North German surroundings. A sunken garden allows for two levels at the rear, with a deep dark koi pond forming the garden's focal point, extending from the indoor swimming pool. Here, a grey-green natural stone sets the atmosphere, while generous windows connect the bathing area with the garden.
The layout of the upper living floor is structured by light wells, bringing daylight deep into the bathing area through the roof. Additional full-height internal glazing provides unexpected views from one level to another.
